These are the thoughts of a Texas transplant in West Michigan who makes his living as a newspaper reporter by evening, and a struggling novelist by day.

a new day

blinded by the night, struggling to move,
everything became abarrier
until the dawn, a new day arising

struggling through the snow-beaten
sidewalks, sliding on ice, tripped by snow-covered mounds
it all looks the same- a parallel field of white,
then came a new day

inhibited by demons,
preying on the soul and mind,
a broken record, skipping, repeating,
getting nowhere, stuck in a moment,
then came a new day

trapped in a nightmare,
running from someone (who?), no one,
faces hidden behind masks,
wolves in sheep's clothing,
then came a new day

a peaceful morn,
sun warmth on the face,
light filters through every shadow,
brightens the corners,
a new day arrives,
dawn is here!
